Commitment to Professional Development

We are committed to professional development for all of our teachers and staff, and approach it with the utmost intentionality both locally and through the resources of our national organization. Non-teaching staff regularly attend professional development trainings and workshops, and also have the opportunity to attend the annual week-long KIPP School Summit (KSS) which has function-based strands for development, operations, leadership, etc. We also have a structured performance management system for every staff member, which includes setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) and checking in with managers on these goals on a quarterly basis.

A Sustainable People Model

At KIPP Massachusetts, we have six key questions we ask ourselves constantly, in order to measure our progress and success as an organization. One of these questions is, “Are we building a sustainable people model?” Along these lines, we have a robust benefits package, built-in feedback mechanisms, and leadership and team-building opportunities built in at every level and in every function, to ensure our teachers and staff are getting the most of their professional experience at KIPP.

The Joy Factor

One of the most important elements of KIPP is the “joy factor.” We are constantly looking for ways to infuse joy not only into the classroom, but into every desk and office space. Our classrooms are always open and non-teaching staff are encouraged to stop by at any point during their day for an energy boost. Teachers and non-teaching staff alike are encouraged to participate in theme days, from 80’s day to sports dress-up day to “Color Wars.” The spirit of joy is all-inclusive at KIPP Massachusetts.
